This estimator uses the multiplier method insurers commonly apply to bodily-injury claims. It is an educational tool, not legal advice, and it does not predict the outcome of any specific case. Consult a licensed attorney in your state.

How the multiplier method works

Adjusters start from your economic damages — medical bills, lost wages and property damage — then multiply the medical portion by roughly 1.5 to 5 to put a number on pain and suffering. Minor soft-tissue injuries sit at the low end; surgery and permanent limitation sit at the top. Most states then reduce your recovery by your percentage of fault, and in many states being 50% or more at fault bars recovery entirely.

This tool is educational. It cannot account for policy limits, venue, your medical records or the specific facts of your case — all of which move real settlements far more than any formula. Read the full breakdown in how pain and suffering is calculated.
